Poompuhar is one of the ancient town found in Nagapattinam district of Tamil Nadu and located at the Kaveri river end in Bay of Bengal coast. Poompuhar, the ancient tamil town originally called Kaveripattanam or Kaveripoompattanam is a capital and port city of early Chola kings.
