Yelagiri, commonly called Elagiri, is a small hill station located in Vellore district of Tamil Nadu. This hill station is located at an altitude of around 1410 meters above sea level and the highest peak of Yelagiri hills is SwamiMalai. This hill station is easily accessible from Chennai and it is just around 200 kilometers away from Chennai.

Yelagiri hills was originally a private property of a Reddy Zamindar family whose house is still found in a small village called Reddiyur in Yelagiri hills.
Yelagiri is famous for trekking and other sports like paragliding and rock climbing. Yelagiri also has a lake with boating like any other hill station in India. The other attraction of this place are temples, Jalagamparai Waterfalls, Telescope observatory, etc.

Every year, during the summer month of May, Tamil Nadu government tourism department organizes “The Yelagiri Summer Festival”. There will be flower show, dog show and other cultural activities during this summit to entertain the tourists.
How to reach Yelagiri?
Yelagiri is well connected through road and it is located off the Vaniyambadi-Tirupattur road. The nearest railway station is Jolarpet or Jolarpettai junction which is around 20 kilometers away from Yelagiri.

Points to Ponder
Yelagiri is not a big and well developed hill station like Ooty, Kodaikanal and Munnar. This means, naturally you have very limited options for everything.
